While Morzine is seen as somewhat of a Mecca for skiing, snowboarding and mountain biking, there's also a multitude of activities on offer for those looking further afield.

Regardless of your experience level, from hardcore fanatic to complete beginner, you'll find the right entry point for your chosen activity. Here's a list of some of the most popular 'other activities' in Morzine.

Hiking

Year-Round

While hiking is available at any time of the year, it's during the summer months when hiking in Morzine really comes to life. Aside from mountain biking, hiking is the most popular activity in Morzine during this time. With a massive variety of hiking routes, to suit all fitness levels, and scenery to rival anywhere on earth for its jaw-dropping beauty, Morzine is the hiking world's worst best-kept secret, and is continuing to grow in popularity.

You can pick up free leaflets at the Morzine Tourist Office if you'd like to plan your own routes, or you can book a guide to join you — a great way to learn about the area and discover the paths that best suit your level of fitness.

Mountain climbing in Morzine

The most popular form of rock climbing in the Alps is known as Via Ferrata, Italian for 'Iron Path'. It is, in essence, a combination of steep mountain hiking and rock climbing. Routes are laid out in a series of secured steel rods that climbers use to secure their harnesses via cables and other fixtures. This allows passage through what would otherwise be treacherous routes, and offers some of the most spectacular views anywhere in the Alps.

It is advisable to organise a guide to accompany you, no matter your level of expertise. Via Ferrata equipment and information on guides is available from Frogs Rafting and Bureau des Guides, both located in Morzine. They can also advise you on more traditional rock climbing spots around Morzine as well as the neighbouring towns of Les Gets and St Jean D'Aulps.

Bureau des Guides can also arrange private and group climbing lessons. Several of their courses aimed at climbers who are just starting out.

Parapenting in Morzine

Summer

At an altitude of up to 600m, parapenting offers you views of Morzine like no other. Take to the sky with your certified instructor and glide gracefully above the village.

Morzine Parapente offers parapenting lessons as well as tandem and speed riding. Prices start at €85 for 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the weather conditions.

Snowmobiling in the French Alps

Winter

Available to anyone over 18 that holds a valid driving license, snowmobiling in Morzine can be booked in hour-long sessions. 15-minutes are given to an initial briefing, while the remaining 45-minutes see you ride through the Super Morzine forest.  

Snowmobiling is available through Avo Scoot. Sessions start from their meeting point in Avoriaz (at the bottom of the Chapelle chair lift), and begin in the early evening, from about 17:30p.m onwards.

Morzine Nordic Walking

Year-Round

As a more strenuous form of walking, Nordic walking offers visitors to Morzine the chance to discover the surrounding landscape, while burning some extra calories. The scenery and the fresh air of the Alps are just two reasons why Nordic walking has become a popular pastime in the area. Morzine has hundreds of kilometers of designated trails, giving you a chance to experiences the multitude of meadows, lakes and majestic peaks at any time of the year.

The specially adapted poles, used in Nordic walking, are available to rent in the majority of equipment hire stores in Morzine.  

Mountaineering in Portes du Soleil

Winter

While mountaineering can be undertaken at any time of the year, it has become a favourite during the winter months in Morzine. The summits of the Portes du Soleil make for some of the most challenging and exhilarating mountaineering adventures in the world. Bring a camera! Once you reach a certain altitude, the photo ops and panoramas become borderline unbelievable. No matter what height you're planning on going to, bringing a local guide is always advisable.

Take a Hot Air Balloon Ride from Lake Geneva

Summer

The Ballons du Leman offers the most dramatic way to explore the local terrain... on a hot air balloon. You can choose to fly over Lake Geneva, or take off from the other side of the lake and head towards the Alps, with stunning views of Mont Blanc.

Geneva is about an hour and 15-minute drive from Morzine. Flights start at €240 per person and last an hour.

Whitewater Activities in Morzine

The easiest way to get involved in whitewater activities is to contact Frogs Rafting.

They offer; rafting, canyoning, hydrospeeding as well as rock climbing and Via Ferrata. All the equipment you may need is supplied, and all levels of experience are catered for.

Golf in Les Gets and Avoriaz

Avoriaz has a pristine 9 hole golf course, spanning across 45 hectares of stunning alpine vistas. There's also a clubhouse and a pro shop.

Les Gets offers an 18 hole course in an equally picturesque setting. Beginners and advanced courses, a restaurant and a pro shop are also available.

Yoga in Morzine

Morzine, like most resorts across the Alps have dedicated Yoga centres and retreats. If the weather permits, there is amble outdoor areas to practice — or just grab you mat and head out onto our deck.
